No.1 Pancake Takapuna

Hotteok is the Korean name for our pancakes.

It’s believed to have come to China about 2,000 years ago from Central Asia through China’s Silk Road.

In 1920, a large number of Chinese workers came to Korea to work on large-scale civil engineering projects and popularised hotteok as a snack food. Since the 1970s, hotteok has been a staple street food that Koreans continue to love and enjoy.

The dough for hotteok is made from wheat flour, water, milk, and yeast. The dough is allowed to rise slowly at a low temperature for several hours.

Fist-sized balls of this dough are stuffed with a filling of your choice. The stuffed dough is then placed on a greased griddle and pressed flat with a special tool until it’s crispy and golden brown.
